Weaker dollar helping gold today

Gold price rose more than 1% on Thursday, moving away from the one-month low it touched in the previous session, as a pullback in the dollar and fresh U.S. tariff announcements lifted demand for the safe-haven asset.

Spot gold was up 0.9% at $3,305.15 per ounce, as of 1140 GMT. The bullion had hit its lowest level since June 30 at $3,267.79 on Wednesday

“We had some large downward moves yesterday in gold around the FOMC statement release and the tariff announcement. So a moderately weaker U.S. dollar is helping gold today,” said UBS commodity analyst Giovanni Staunovo.

Spot silver was down 1.6% at $36.53 per ounce, platinum fell 0.6% to $1,318.20 and palladium gained 0.9% to $1,215.94.

Trump uncertainties push gold to near all-time high

Spot gold added 0.4% to $2,755.2 per ounce as of 02:29 p.m. ET (1629 GMT). Prices were at their highest since Oct. 31 when they hit their all-time high of $2,790.15.

“There are uncertainties with proposed tariffs and other things, and gold typically does well when there’s a large or even a moderate amount of uncertainty in the market, it’s a natural place where people gravitate to,” said Ryan McIntyre, senior portfolio manager at Sprott Asset Management

“(Trump) has been perhaps just a shade less hawkish on tariffs as feared, which helps — less/lower tariffs is taken to indicate lower inflation hence potential for more rate cuts,” said Tai Wong, an independent metals trader.

    Northern Superior Resources announcement

Northern Superior Resources Inc is pleased to announce that it has completed the acquisition of the Hazeur, Monster Lake East, and Monster Lake West Properties originally announced on June 16, 2025 (the “ Transaction “), expanding its total land position in the Chibougamau Gold Camp from 60,016 hectares to 68,522 hectares.

The Company sees potential to expand the Philibert deposit along strike to the west, particularly within multiple shear zones such as the Red Fox Zone, which historically has seen the most drilling.

“This acquisition is a major step forward in unlocking the broader potential of the Chibougamau Gold Camp. Not only do these new properties host known gold mineralization and compelling exploration upside, but they also extend key geological structures directly linked to the Philibert deposit. Combined with recent drilling success and a growing resource base, Philibert is rapidly emerging as a cornerstone asset in a camp now coming into prominence on the global stage,” said Simon Marcotte, President and Chief Executive Officer.
