Footage of Gold toilet burglary

The footage played at their trial at Oxford Crown Court showed two vehicles driving across the Great Courtyard, before hooded individuals armed with sledgehammers and a large crowbar broke into the palace. One could be seen leaving carrying a golden toilet seat.

The fully functioning lavatory was insured for the sum of $6m (£4.8m), the court heard previously.

“They knew precisely where to go, broke down the wooden door to the cubicle where the toilet was fully plumbed in, removed it, leaving water pouring out of the pipes, and drove away,” prosecutor Julian Christopher KC said previously.

“Clearly such an audacious raid would not have been possible without lots of preparation”, he added,

I will follow this till the end of the trial. I want to know what happened to the toilet! Maybe you do too. Clearly had to have been planned and to have done it so quickly, from the video evidence anyway. Let’s see what happens. -V.

Comex gold inventories see sharp rise since Trump’s victory; silver gains

“The uncertainty surrounding Trump’s first measures as U.S. president fuelled demand for gold as a safe haven. This can be seen, among other things, in the strong inflow of more than 10 tons into the world’s largest and most liquid gold ETF on Friday,” Commerzbank Research said.

“The uncertainty as to whether tariffs will be introduced on gold and silver has already left visible traces on the Comex in recent weeks. In addition, the price premium for gold on the Comex has widened significantly compared to the spot price in London.”

Indonesia’s government may allow Freeport McMoRan (NYSE:FCX) to export ~1M tons of copper concentrate, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said Friday.

Gold Is Close to Revisiting Its Record High

The most active futures on gold are currently trading at $2745.10, up $27.30 or 1% from a day earlier. That level is just about 2% shy of its all-time settlement high of $2800.80 marked on Oct. 30. If the contract closes at current levels, it would be the highest close since last month, according to the Dow Jones Market Data.

“Gold remains the consummate hedge for investors worried about inflation or growth,” wrote Jared Woodard and the team from BofA securities on Tuesday. Gold was labeled as BofA’s “highest conviction investment ideas for 2025.”

BHP Group may sell Australian operations

Mining giant BHP Group flagged rising costs and delays at a giant potash project in Canada and said it may sell its Australian nickel operations, as it reported record annual iron ore and copper production.

The company said Friday it faces rising costs at the Jansen potash project in Canada’s Saskatchewan province, its only major development currently under construction.

The company said it is also reviewing Jansen’s second stage, which is roughly 11% complete. BHP may delay first production from that expansion by two years, to fiscal 2031, because it reckons there might be more potash supply coming into the market over the medium term than previously envisaged.

BHP said it expects to produce between 1.8 million and 2.0 million tons of copper in the year ahead.

    Gold and Silver in demand

“The uncertainty over US tariffs is pushing investors toward safe-haven assets like gold,” said Michael Hewson, Chief Market Analyst at CMC Markets.

The weaker US Dollar, coupled with uncertainties surrounding US trade policies, is supporting silver’s bullish momentum.

Gold (XAU/USD) is trading at $2,940.57, showing a modest gain of +0.07%.

Silver (XAG/USD) is trading at $32.68, slightly down by -0.03%.

Macquarie Group predicts gold will reach $3500

“Year-to-date, gold has been running ahead of our expectations,” Marcus Garvey, head of commodities strategy at Macquarie, wrote on Thursday.

“We are raising our gold price forecast to a 3Q25 quarter average peak of $3,150 per ounce and our single point price high to $3,500 per ounce,” Garvey wrote.

“President Trump’s rapid move to announce, if not always to enact, import tariffs has contributed to geopolitical uncertainty and boosted inflation expectations, helping push down front-end real rates and supporting gold in the face of periodic USD strength and initially reduced expectations for Fed rate cuts,” the strategist wrote.
