Arizona Sonoran Copper Company finalizes offering

Arizona Sonoran Copper Company has successfully closed a public offering, raising C$51.75m ($37.6m) through the issuance of 25,875,000 common shares.

This includes 3.3 million shares from the full exercise of the over-allotment option by underwriters. Priced at C$2 per share, the offering is a strategic move to secure financial stability for the company’s upcoming projects.

    Gold trades high, spot gold gains

    Spot gold gained 0.5% to $2,946.68 an ounce, as of 1131 GMT

    “Gold continues to be supported by the prospect of a tariff-driven economic slowdown, potentially bringing forward U.S. Fed rate cut expectations,” Ole Hansen, head of commodity strategy at Saxo Bank, said.

    “I maintain my bullish stance on gold, expecting an economic slowdown or even stagflation to drive demand and price of gold higher.”

    Spot silver was flat at $33.21 an ounce, platinum lost about 1% to $974.45, while palladium dropped 0.2% to $947.17.

    Florence copper project, Florence Arizona

    Construction continues to advance on schedule and first copper production is still targeted before the end of 2025. Overall project completion was at 78% as of March 31, 2025.

    “The project is in great shape and Florence Copper will soon become a major new supplier of copper cathode for the US market. The project is uniquely positioned to produce and sell refined copper inside the United States and potentially benefit from premium COMEX copper pricing in the coming years.”

    South Africa’s rand strengthened on Monday, as gold hit a fresh high and optimism grew over the prospect of an agreement between the two biggest government partners on the budget.

    At 0728 GMT, the rand traded at 18.2375 against the dollar, about 1.1% stronger than its previous close.

    Gold prices touched an all-time high on Monday as investors stressing over a global trade war and economic slowdown from the world’s biggest economy turned towards the safe-haven asset. South Africa is a major producer of the precious metal.

    List of 50 exempt items Gold and Silver included

    Non-tariff barriers are meant to limit the amount of imports/exports and protect domestic industries. In some relief to consumers globally, the Trump administration has kept some essential items exempt from the purview of these tariffs.

    Items exempt from the tariffs levied by Trump include copper, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, lumber articles, certain critical minerals, as well as energy and energy products.

    Gold steady, Platinum at its highest

    Gold prices were little changed on Wednesday as investors waited for the Federal Reserve’s policy decision and comments from Chair Jerome Powell, while platinum surged to a more than four-year peak.

    Spot gold was steady at $3,387.89 an ounce by 1145 a.m. EDT (1545 GMT).

    “The prevailing trend of seeking alternative stores of value beyond the U.S. dollar remains strong, driven by a growing desire for assets that are independent of external control,” said Ryan McIntyre, Managing Partner at Sprott Inc.

    Spot silver fell 1% to $36.87 per ounce

    Platinum added 3.5% to $1,306.68, highest since February 2021.

    Gold up 5% this week, Silver gained

    Spot gold jumped over 1% to $3,214.92 an ounce, as of 0801 GMT, after hitting a record high of $3,219.84 earlier in the session. Bullion is up over 5% so far this week.

    “Recession risks are mounting, bond yields are soaring, and the U.S. dollar continues to weaken – all factors reinforcing gold’s role as a crisis hedge and inflation shield,” said Alexander Zumpfe, a precious metals trader at Heraeus Metals Germany.

    “We believe gold has further to run—in the upside case, we target USD 3,400-3,500/oz over the months ahead,” said UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo.

    Spot silver gained 0.4% to $31.31 an ounce, while platinum added 0.7% to $944.35. Palladium gained 1.9% to $925.43.
