Silver falls but stays the same

The silver market has been somewhat sideways over the last few weeks, but the Wednesday session could provide enough information to get people moving again.

Silver fell in the early hours of Wednesday as we have tested the crucial $33 level again. This is an area that of course has been like a magnet for price for some time.

Talks between the United States and China are seemingly a thing now, and that, of course, will help the idea of industrial demand for silver, but it takes away that precious metal trade as well.

Mayor of Pataz, Peru “Gold is a curse”

Pataz has become Peru’s largest gold-producing region, in no small part due to artisan or informal mines, which operate under temporary REINFO permits.

“Gold is a curse for Pataz,” the mayor of Pataz, Aldo Mariño, told Reuters.

He said that despite the area’s great mineral wealth, his community lives in poverty, without basic services and on deteriorating or unpaved roads.

“This has been going on for several years, with the difference that now everything has collapsed. It’s due to the absence of the State,” he said. “People continue to die.”

Poderosa has reported the deaths of 39 workers in recent years in attacks on its facilities or small mines that supply it with gold. And in the last four years, 15 of the company’s high-voltage towers have been destroyed with explosives.

Mining in Peru suspended

Mining in Peru’s northern district of Pataz will be suspended for 30 days, President Dina Boluarte said on Monday, after 13 gold mine workers in the area were kidnapped and killed by illegal miners.

On Sunday, miner Poderosa said the bodies of 13 workers from a local firm, R&R, which held a mining contract with Poderosa, had been recovered by police after they were kidnapped last month.

“The armed forces will take control of the area where Poderosa operates,” Boluarte said, but did not provide details on how the mining pause would work.

Peru is the world’s third-largest copper producer, but the deposits of the red metal are largely in the south. Gold and silver are mined in the north.

Jorge Montoro, said the 30-day pause could be extended.

Gold prices, Silver gained

Gold prices rose to a two-week high on Tuesday, supported by post-holiday buying from China and concerns over potential U.S. tariffs on pharmaceutical imports, while investors await the outcome of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting.

Spot gold was up 1.9% at $3,395.94 an ounce at 1200 ET (1600 GMT). Earlier in the session, prices rose around 2% to the highest since April 22, when they hit a record high of $3,500.05/oz.

“The bull market is being driven by China’s latest gold investing surge, plus the ongoing bid from central banks wanting to cut their exposure to U.S. assets, most especially the dollar,” said Adrian Ash, BullionVault director of research.

Spot silver gained 1.5% to $33 an ounce, platinum rose about 2.4% to $982.18 and palladium added 3.4% to $972.46.

Where to Buy Physical Gold

I just want to keep this short because if you’re here then that means you just want to know right away so I will make this short and sweet.

OF COURSE you can buy gold and silver through reputable places that make IRAs for you but if you want to buy your precious metals and keep it safely in your own care then this is for you. I am on your side as I feel that is the easiest way to start before making it into a retirement plan.

I won’t list the IRA places because we already know those so lets do a short list of local places you can find in any state and in person.

Walmart

I know, I know Walmart. One of the last places in the world I would go and maybe most people would go to buy gold. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they sell grams, bars and coins. Not to mention their jewelry. When I found out that Walmart sold gold bars I got the app right away to check it out. Honestly I’m impressed!

Going on the website you will find that there are lots of options to choose from. The smallest that I have found (in price) is 1/2 a gram of .999 fine gold bar at $73. WOW! You can also buy 1oz gold bars at various prices. All are sold from different distributors going through Walmart but it’s pretty convenient to find and that’s the greatest part about this.

I have also found some gold coins and my personal favorite (besides anything silver) is Goldbacks. The $1 Goldback is the cheapest on the website but you cannot spend everywhere and that topic is for a different post I will do here soon.

Now as far as buying in store and in person you will have to call the locations or select online to pickup in store. Taxes wise, again you will have to call and find out but other than that you can’t argue that’s pretty cool to go through your local Walmart.

Costco

For most people (like myself) would never think to go to flippin’ Costco for gold are you kidding me! But recently there have been gold sales at Costco that started in 2023. You can buy the gold but of course you have to be a member to buy. That’s the only downside but it’s easy to get one. If not, maybe you can go in person or online with your family member who does have a membership and purchase that way.

The gold is 1oz 999.9 minted bar. If they are in store you’ll have to find out from the location in your area but you might get lucky and see them there waiting for you. If you’re ordering online it might have a shipping cost and you can only get 2 per 24 hrs. As far as tax, that I am unclear on so please don’t hesitate to give them a call or email before you buy.

(I think I will have to get my membership now just to get this)

The obvious……

We all know (unless you’re not a seasoned investor) that there are so many places that buy and sell gold. Well lets just take a moment to talk about these places.

Pawn Shops

This is probably a 50/50 for most people. Now I have not gone to a pawn shop to purchase gold but they do have gold jewelry and very nice pieces too. I will not say they are all the same because some are very nice and some are not. Remember that when you go the gold will be marked up than elsewhere in price so don’t go in blind but expect a realistic price.

At some pawn shops you may be able to haggle a price or you can trade in your personal gold for some cash. You can always walk out if the dealer doesn’t sell gold at the same or better price you found elsewhere.

If pawn shops are a maybe don’t worry there are other places to visit. The great thing about this option is that you can trade or get cash and that’s pretty nice.

Gold and Silver Shops

These stores are not in every city or small town but if you find one you will be pleasantly surprised at what you may find.

Gold and Silver shops will have bars, coins, oz, grams and jewelry. You may also find some notes that will fetch a good price if that’s another form of investment you’d like to dip your toe into.

What’s so great about these shops is that they generally stay around the market price *no tax*. Please take that with a grain of salt. Not all dealers are the same. Talk to them and find out how they do the taxes on gold and silver bullion.

Search your town and see if you can find a gold dealer in your area.

Main Idea

Gold is rising and it doesn’t look like its slowing down anytime soon. This post is to think about buying gold locally, educating yourself gradually as prices constantly shift and give you some options you might not have thought of to look for this particular investment.

Gold and Silver are a great way to hedge against inflation and boost your portfolio. Having it in hand in you own personal safe is a great way to start storing your investments till you’re ready to put in an IRA.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions to any of these dealers in fact it benefits you!

Gold higher, Silver edged

Gold edged higher on Friday, after hitting a two-week low in the previous session, but easing trade tensions and a strong jobs report kept prices on track for a second consecutive weekly loss.

Spot gold was up 0.5% at $3,255.01 an ounce as of 9:41 a.m. ET (1341 GMT), after hitting its lowest since April 14 on Thursday. Prices were down 2.1% for the week, after hitting a record high of $3,500.05 on April 22.

“Gold looks like $3,500 may be a top for a little while, especially if some trade deals start to come through and some risk on appetite starts to break through the kind of negative euphoria that we’ve been seeing since the tariff talks,” said Daniel Pavilonis, senior market strategist at RJO Futures.

Spot silver edged 0.1% lower to $32.35 an ounce, platinum rose 1% to $967.70, and palladium gained 0.9% to $949.00.

Gold up 170% in first quarter

Gold prices have steadied after surging to a record high amid early signs of consolidation following the rally built on fears around U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade policies.

The precious metal eased to close at $3,287.72 an ounce on Wednesday, down 6.1% from the all-time peak of $3,500.05 hit on April 22.

Total gold investment flows sky-rocketed by 170% in the first quarter of 2025 from the same period a year earlier, reaching 552 metric tons, the highest since the first quarter in 2022, the WGC said in its report on Wednesday.

Analysts poll on gold and silver

Analysts in a quarterly Reuters poll have forecast an average annual gold price above $3,000 for the first time, with global trade friction and a swing away from the U.S. dollar powering demand.

The poll of 29 analysts and traders returned a median forecast of $3,065 per troy ounce of gold for this year, up from $2,756 predicted in a poll three months ago. The estimated price for 2026 rose to $3,000 from $2,700.

The poll forecast an average 2025 silver price of $33.10 per ounce, unchanged from the previous survey. It has averaged $32 so far this year.

Analysts lifted their 2026 silver price forecast to $34.58 from $33.45, expecting a structural market deficit and the global clean energy transition to provide support.

Gold down 1%, Silver up

Gold fell more than 1% on Tuesday as signals of easing U.S.-China trade tensions reduced some safe-haven demand, while investors braced for key economic data this week to gauge the Federal Reserve’s policy outlook.

Spot gold was down 1.2% at $3,300.57 an ounce as of 9:50 a.m. ET (1350 GMT). U.S. gold futures fell 1.1% to $3,310.20.

“There is some optimism that there will be some de-escalation of the trade war between the U.S. and China,” said David Meger, director of metals trading at High Ridge Futures.

“We’ve seen the equity markets rebound over the course of the last several sessions. So there’s been a bit of a lesser need for safe havens like gold.”

Spot silver rose 0.1% to $33.2 an ounce, platinum eased 0.3% to $983.26 and palladium lost 0.8% to $941.51

John Paulson predicts gold to reach $5000

Central bank gold buying and global trade tensions are likely to push bullion prices to near $5,000 an ounce by 2028, billionaire investor John Paulson said in an interview during which he reinforced his commitment to U.S. mining projects

Already the largest shareholder in Idaho gold and antimony developer Perpetua Resources, Paulson last week bought a 40% stake in NovaGold’s Donlin gold project in Alaska from Barrick.

“It’s a well-informed prediction. I think that’s a reasonable number,” he said.

“As central banks and people look to put their money in a more stable source… I think gold will increase its position in the world,” he added
