BHP and Canada’s Lundin Mining extend mining time

Vicuña Corp, a joint venture of Australia’s BHP and Canada’s Lundin Mining (LUN.TO), opens new tab, on Thursday said it was extending the useful life of its Josemaria copper, gold and silver project in Argentina by six years.

It attributed the longer useful life of the mine, now 25 years instead of 19 years previously, to higher levels of exploitable resources.

Vicuña also predicted an ore processing rate at the site, located in Argentina’s north-western San Juan province, near the Chilean border, at 175,000 metric tons per day.

    Gold-Silver Ratio exceeds 90:1

Gold has reached new all-time highs, and the gold-to-silver ratio now exceeds 90:1. Such a high ratio has often signaled an impending breakout for silver prices. It indicates that silver could be undervalued, and we may be on the verge of a major price surge. Sometimes, if you miss a price run-up for gold, you can make up for it by buying silver instead as it catches up to its yellow cousin.

Trump to make sure Fort Knox gold is there

“We’re going to go into Fort Knox to make sure the gold is there… do you know about that?” Trump said to a reporter aboard Air Force One, according to a video posted to X by Musk.

“We hope everything is fine with Fort Knox, but we’re going to go into Fort Knox, the fabled Fort Knox, to make sure the gold is there.”

“If the gold isn’t there, we’re going to be very upset,” Trump said.

Then-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., visited the vaults in 2017. They reported that, despite various conspiracy theories, the gold was present.

    Silver Continues to Pressure Upside

During the trading on Friday, we saw the silver market initially dip, only to turn around and show signs of strength yet again. Because of this, I think the market is likely to continue to be bullish.

In general, this is a market that’s been in an uptrend for quite some time and if we are in fact going to continue to see inflationary issues, things like silver, commodities and stuff could get a little bit of a bid. We’ll just have to wait and see.

    Goldman Sachs forecast on copper

Goldman Sachs says U.S. net copper imports could rise by 50%-100% in the coming months due to higher U.S. prices before the Trump administration’s planned tariffs, which the bank believes will be imposed at 25% and lead to the surge in imports and a 200K-300K-ton increase in U.S. copper inventories by the end of Q3.

“We maintain our forecast that the LME month-month price will average $10,200/ton in 2024 Q3, and see the impact of inventory dislocation predominantly in timespreads,” the bank writes.

Gold and Silver : Experts predict 10% – 25% rally

“Given the current scenario, central banks are likely to continue diversifying their reserves with gold for financial and strategic reasons,” ICICI Securities stated in its report.

Pankaj Pandey, Head of Research at ICICI Securities, noted, “We anticipate fresh investment demand for gold in 2025 as investors seek a store of value amidst trade war anxieties.”

Silver is poised to outperform gold in 2025, supported by strong industrial demand from green energy applications, including photovoltaics and electric vehicle (EV) electrification, said ICICI.
