Copper prices have been steady lately, but today’s update caught my attention.

Copper is up to $6.39! I have not checked on copper in a few months but this is interesting. Copper is lots of fun to collect in my personal opinion and so I think I will go out and collect some from my local precious metals dealer. Copper may not get as much attention as gold or silver, but it’s still a fascinating metal to collect and watch.

Check with your local precious metals dealer to see if they carry copper rounds or bars today.

    Gold and Silver are trying to stabilize after selloff

    Although gold and silver saw disappointing price action on Friday, experiencing their worst daily loss since mid-December, some analysts note that the damage to the broad rallies has been limited.

    The gold market started the week holding initial support around $2,880 an ounce. Spot gold last traded at $2,896.50 an ounce, up 0.50% on the day. Silver is also finding solid support, as it has bounced off its overnight lows just below $32 an ounce. Spot silver last traded at $32.20 an ounce, up 0.20% on the day.

    Alex Kuptsikevich, Chief Market Analyst at FxPro, said in a note that gold’s price action has become a little more complicated following Friday’s selloff, as buyers have become more cautious.

    Chile copper mine produces first cathode

    A Chilean startup backed by BHP Group has delivered its first copper cathodes from a demonstration plant at a mine site in northern Chile as the industry looks to squeeze out more metal from lower quality ore.

    Ceibo and firms such as Jetti Resources LLC and Rio Tinto Group’s Nuton venture are looking to roll out catalysts for liberating copper from low-grade ore that miners previously saw as too expensive and difficult to process.

    Copper cathode – is high quality copper that is produced through the process of electrolysis.

    Electrolysis – is an electric current that passes through a substance to have a chemical change.

    Gold prices keep getting higher

    The price of gold rose 1.4% to $2,941 per troy ounce in trading Tuesday, putting it 0.2% off its record high notched last week, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

    “After missing several (brief/ shallow) buying opportunities in 2024, investors are likely wary of repeating the same patterns and may want to take advantage of corrections sooner this time around,” analysts wrote.

    Hidden Valley copper mine life extended to mid-2040s

    Teck Resources (NYSE:TECK) said late Tuesday it received an environmental assessment certificate from the British Columbia provincial government to extend the life of the Highland Valley copper mine into the mid-2040s.

    “This positive decision by the Government of B.C. will support extending the life of Canada’s largest copper mine, strengthening the North America critical minerals supply chain and contributing to jobs and economic activity,” Teck (TECK) President and CEO Jonathan Price said.

    Freeport McMoRan may get approval from Indonesian government

    Indonesia’s government may allow Freeport McMoRan (NYSE:FCX) to export ~1M tons of copper concentrate, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said Friday.

    Freeport Indonesia (FCX) has been seeking permission to export copper concentrate after it was forced to stop copper cathode production at its new smelter in Gresik after a fire broke out at its gas cleaning unit in October.
