Everything about buying gold at Costco

Costco offers members an opportunity to purchase one-ounce gold bars in the store, online or via their app. The retailer offers gold bullion bars, 1-ounce bars and coins in different designs. As of February 2025, Costco offers the following gold products:

  • 1 oz. gold bar PAMP Suisse Lady Fortuna Veriscan
  • 1 oz. gold bar Rand Refinery (online only)
  • 2025 1 oz. American Buffalo gold coin
  • 1 oz. gold bar PAMP / Newmont Lady of Liberty (online only)
  • 100-gram gold bar Rand Refinery

Costco’s selection comes from authorized dealers and reputable mints. However, as Costco members are accustomed to, offerings and availability may change.

Costco marks up its cost for gold by roughly 2%. Markup is common practice among gold dealers and retailers, and 2% is on the low end of industry standards.

    Mitsubishi Materials considering partial shutdown

Japan’s Mitsubishi Materials is considering scaling back copper concentrate processing at its Onahama Smelter & Refinery as falling treatment and processing charges (TC/RCs) weigh on earnings, it said on Monday.

Mitsubishi Materials said the worsening TC/RCs from miners were expected to further erode smelting margins.

“To maintain and improve profitability, we need to raise the ratio of recycled raw materials and accelerate the shift to feedstock less vulnerable to TC/RC fluctuations,” the company said in a statement.

It is now considering the possibility of a partial shutdown of production facilities and a reduction in copper concentrate processing at Onahama, after planned maintenance from October to November this year, Mitsubishi Materials said.

  • Mining in Peru suspended

Mining in Peru’s northern district of Pataz will be suspended for 30 days, President Dina Boluarte said on Monday, after 13 gold mine workers in the area were kidnapped and killed by illegal miners.

On Sunday, miner Poderosa said the bodies of 13 workers from a local firm, R&R, which held a mining contract with Poderosa, had been recovered by police after they were kidnapped last month.

“The armed forces will take control of the area where Poderosa operates,” Boluarte said, but did not provide details on how the mining pause would work.

Peru is the world’s third-largest copper producer, but the deposits of the red metal are largely in the south. Gold and silver are mined in the north.

Jorge Montoro, said the 30-day pause could be extended.

Jubilee Metals face power challenges in Zambia

“Over the past quarter, we have experienced significant challenges in our Zambian operations brought on by a combination of extraordinary circumstances outside of our direct control. We have addressed the power supply challenge by entering into an additional power supply agreement that sources power across a broader generation network to avoid localised exposure to network instabilities and a single power generation plant,” said Leon Coetzer the CEO of Jubilee Metals

Copper run-of-mine (ROM) and in process stock for Jubilee also increased sharply, reaching 1.21 million tons containing an estimated 8 466 tons of copper units now earmarked for future processing.
