Footage of Gold toilet burglary

The footage played at their trial at Oxford Crown Court showed two vehicles driving across the Great Courtyard, before hooded individuals armed with sledgehammers and a large crowbar broke into the palace. One could be seen leaving carrying a golden toilet seat.

The fully functioning lavatory was insured for the sum of $6m (£4.8m), the court heard previously.

“They knew precisely where to go, broke down the wooden door to the cubicle where the toilet was fully plumbed in, removed it, leaving water pouring out of the pipes, and drove away,” prosecutor Julian Christopher KC said previously.

“Clearly such an audacious raid would not have been possible without lots of preparation”, he added,

I will follow this till the end of the trial. I want to know what happened to the toilet! Maybe you do too. Clearly had to have been planned and to have done it so quickly, from the video evidence anyway. Let’s see what happens. -V.

Gold prices down after trade truce

Gold prices have fallen almost 10% from a record high just above $3,500 per ounce in April as a de-escalation in U.S.-China trade tensions punctured momentum, but analysts are sticking with a bullish outlook due to strong underlying support for the metal.

Spot gold was trading around $3,180 an ounce on Friday, leaving prices on track for their worst week in six months.

“Gold prices are more likely to rise than to fall from this stage onwards as other factors like central bank demand and very strong investor demand from China are not going away anytime soon,” said Nitesh Shah, commodities strategist at WisdomTree.

    Gold hits one-month high

Gold prices surged to a one-month peak on Thursday, nearing $2,700 per ounce, as softer U.S. inflation data fueled hopes of lower interest rates in 2025. Spot gold rose to $2,697.45 an ounce, while February gold futures climbed 0.4% to $2,728. Lower rates enhance gold’s appeal by reducing the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets.

Other precious metals saw mixed movement: platinum futures dipped 0.1% to $948.15 an ounce, while silver edged up 0.3% to $31.622.

Copper prices steadied after recent gains, with London futures rising 0.3% to $9,192.50 per ton.

BHP and Canada’s Lundin Mining extend mining time

Vicuña Corp, a joint venture of Australia’s BHP and Canada’s Lundin Mining (LUN.TO), opens new tab, on Thursday said it was extending the useful life of its Josemaria copper, gold and silver project in Argentina by six years.

It attributed the longer useful life of the mine, now 25 years instead of 19 years previously, to higher levels of exploitable resources.

Vicuña also predicted an ore processing rate at the site, located in Argentina’s north-western San Juan province, near the Chilean border, at 175,000 metric tons per day.
