Gold prices on the rise to record highs

At the time of writing, the XAU/SD trades at $2,755 after bouncing off daily lows of $2,741

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the performance of the Greenback against a basket of six peers and usually correlates inversely to Gold, rises 0.08%, up at 108.16.

Gold prices are set to challenge record high of $2,790 amid ongoing US trade policies uncertainty.

    10lbs gold nugget up for auction

    In 1979, a couple using a metal detector in the Kalgoorlie Goldfields of Western Australia located a massive gold nugget. Known today as the “Golden Beauty,” the nugget weighs in at nearly 10 pounds.

    It is currently on the auction block. According to Heritage Auctions, the opening bid was $400,000.

    Gold and Silver prices over seas

    On April 1, 2025, 24 carat gold is priced at ₹89,330/10 gm, according to data on the Indian Bullion Association (IBA) at 10.15 am. Further, 22 carat gold is priced at ₹81,886/10 gms. Gold bullion prices have remained steady over the past 24 hours.

    Silver meanwhile, is priced at ₹1,01,200/kg (Silver 999 Fine) at 10.15 am on April 1, according to the IBA website. On the MCX index, the price of Silver has increased by ₹834 to ₹1,00,899/kg.

    Gold could reach $4000 says Strategist Mick McGlone

    The yellow metal could zoom all the way to $4,000 if investors continue to lose their appetite for risk, which would mean ditching assets like stocks and cryptocurrencies, and redirecting that money into gold and Treasury bonds, according to a note Friday from Bloomberg Intelligence Strategist Mick McGlone.

    “The key competitors for gold, at least for the past few years, have been the strong rise in U.S. stocks, the rise in U.S. bond yields, and the rise in digital gold—that is Bitcoin,”

    Gold eyes milestone, bear case being planted

    “What we have seen is the change in the motive for safe-haven buying – from being driven by the Middle East uncertainty to the threat and realisation of tariffs,” said Philip Newman, managing director at consultancy Metals Focus.

    “Strikingly, gold was rallying as inflation eased, and it looked as though all of our understanding of how gold prices behaved was being challenged,” said independent analyst Ross Norman.

    Nicky Shiels, head of metals strategy at MKS PAMP SA, said that while prices could break out towards $3,200, resolution of physical gold dislocations attributed to tariffs and potential structural changes including reduced risk appetite, reduced participation and reduced liquidity are increasingly bearish.
