Gold toilet thief and accomplice convicted!

“This was an audacious raid which had been carefully planned and executed,” prosecutor Shan Saunders said. “But those responsible were not careful enough, leaving a trail of evidence in the form of forensics, CCTV footage and phone data.”

The purloined potty was stolen just days after its installation. It has never been recovered but is believed to have been cut up and sold.

Jones, 39, was convicted of burglary in Oxford Crown Court.

The theft was planned by James Sheen, 40, who previously pleaded guilty to burglary, conspiracy and transferring criminal property.

Doe, 36, also known as Frederick Sines, was convicted of conspiracy to transfer criminal property.

A fourth man charged in the conspiracy, Bora Guccuk, 41, was acquitted by jurors.

WOW! Looks like justice was served. I will continue to follow up on jail time. Stealing a gold toilet from Winston Churchills house is bold to say the least. I wonder if the art will be made again after this. We’ll see! – V.

Barrick Mining maybe under provisional administration

A Malian court has adjourned to Thursday a hearing on whether to put Barrick Mining’s Loulo-Gounkoto gold complex under provisional administration, the court’s registry office and one of the lawyers involved told Reuters on Monday.

Granting the request would represent a major escalation of a dispute between the West African country and the Canadian miner after operations at the complex were suspended in January in a dispute over taxes and ownership.

Barrick has said it can only resume operations when the Malian government removes restrictions on gold exports.

The government has renegotiated agreements with other multinational miners under the new mining law. Four Barrick employees have been detained since November 2024 and an arrest warrant was issued for Chief Executive Mark Bristow in December 2024.

    Silver will get to $35….eventually

The Thursday session sees a bit of consolidation in the silver market, as we are not trying to digest further gains from the Wednesday session. At this point, the market looks as if it want to go to the $35 level eventually.

Silver is a metal that I would be a buyer on dips because it is a precious metal. It’s a way to protect wealth, but it’s also an industrial one.

  • South African Rand strong

South Africa’s rand strengthened on Monday, as gold hit a fresh high and optimism grew over the prospect of an agreement between the two biggest government partners on the budget.

At 0728 GMT, the rand traded at 18.2375 against the dollar, about 1.1% stronger than its previous close.

Gold prices touched an all-time high on Monday as investors stressing over a global trade war and economic slowdown from the world’s biggest economy turned towards the safe-haven asset. South Africa is a major producer of the precious metal.

    Additional Info

Currently there are 11 states that use gold and silver coins as legal tender Utah being the first state to do so in 2011. This is a great shift we may see as states are either moving towards it or in talks of doing this. The positive for those who live in these states is the capital gains taxes would be eliminated on sales of gold and silver.

  • ‘No evidence’ man knew gold was stolen, jury told

Follow up on Stolen Gold Toilet from art exhibit at Blenheim Palace, in Oxfordshire

There is no evidence a man on trial in connection with the theft of a £4.8m golden toilet knew the gold he was dealing with was stolen, a jury has been told.

The prosecution said the 41-year-old’s decision not to give evidence meant he failed to answer a number of questions, including what the gold looked like when it was delivered to his jewellers in Hatton Garden.

“What clear evidence is there that Mr Guccuk did anything wrong or criminal?”
