    JP Morgan analyst on gold

After a strong run for precious metals, gold mining shares still look undervalued.

That’s the view from JP Morgan’s latest note on listed producers, which argues there’s room for substantial upside, especially if its bullish forecast for the precious metal proves right.

Its commodities team is pencilling in a price of $4,100 an ounce for 2026. That’s well above current spot levels of $3,320 and would mark a new all-time high.

Based on that estimate, JP Morgan sees around 40–50 per cent upside to average analyst expectations for earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation across the sector.

    Gold and Silver forecast

Gold (XAU/USD) rose sharply during the Asian session on Thursday, reaching $3,126.67, as global markets reacted to renewed trade tensions.

Silver (XAG/USD) is trading at $33.28, having touched a session low of $33.07. Despite gold’s upward momentum, silver’s response has been more restrained, weighed down by its industrial use case.

    iShares silver outperforms gold

This year’s returns on silver, at 26.8%, have inched slightly above gold, according to the prices of two popular exchange-traded funds, the iShares Silver Trust and SPDR Gold Shares as of Monday’s trading.

It is the first time the iShares silver ETF has outperformed gold’s year-to-date gains in 48 trading days. As recently as May, the gold fund’s 2025 returns were nearly double that of silver. Much of the catch-up has taken place in June as the silver ETF gained 11% while the gold fund gained 1%.

Silver Continues to See Same Ceiling

The silver market continues to threaten the same barrier, which starts at the $32.35 level, and then reaches the $32.50 level before it is all said and done. Because of that, the market, I believe, is just simply grinding away or even pecking away, if you will, at the barrier that has been one of the biggest factors here in the silver market.
