Sterling Metals Maiden Exploration Program Delivers Multiple New Drill-Ready Copper Targets Following Successful 3D IP Survey at Copper Road

This survey covered an expansive 5km by 3km area in the center of the Project, successfully pinpointing multiple high-priority, drill-ready targets. These findings are significant, highlighting both the potential of the near surface target zones as well as the Project’s capacity to host a large-scale copper porphyry mineral system at depth

Jeremy Niemi, SVP Exploration and Evaluation, commented, “We are very happy with how our maiden exploration season has advanced at the Copper Road Project. We took a very purposeful approach to develop geologically rich evidence for a large-scale copper porphyry mineral system and to identify targets that have the potential to host significant volumes of copper and molybdenum. In just eight months, we have achieved this and set the stage for drilling very exciting targets.”

The primary objective of the survey was to identify sizeable chargeable anomalies within the priority area of the Project.

President Trump will add copper to trade protection

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said nothing would stop President Donald Trump’s expanded 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum until U.S. domestic production is strengthened, and that Trump will add copper to his trade protections.

“We can’t be in a war and rely on steel and aluminum from some other country. I mean, it’s just not reasonable,” Lutnick said. “So the president wants steel and aluminum in America, and let me be clear, nothing is going to stop that until we’ve got a big, strong domestic steel and aluminum capability. And by the way, he’s going to add copper to that mix too.”

Deliverable copper stocks on the Shanghai Futures Exchange stood at 268,337 tons on February 28, more than double the 83,174 tons recorded on January 3.

    Korea Zinc is struggling

Korea Zinc’s ambitious 10-year growth plan has stalled in its first year, derailed by an eight-month control battle with private equity firm MBK Partners, raising concerns about the company’s financial health and strategic direction.

The world’s top non-ferrous metal smelter laid out its long-term vision in December 2023 during its first-ever investor day in Seoul, pledging to invest 11.9 trillion won ($8.8 billion) over the next decade in battery materials and other new businesses, with a target of 10% annual growth.

The dispute has overshadowed hopes that Korea Zinc could benefit from U.S. President Donald Trump’s renewed tariff push and global supply chain realignment. “They’ve already wasted eight months,” said an industry source. “If this continues, the company may miss its window of opportunity.”
