$13 billion in Idaho gold. A mineral critical to U.S. defense.

“We’ve interdeveloped or interwoven cleanup of these legacy impacts with modern, responsible mining activity,” Mckinsey Lyon, spokesperson for Perpetua Resources, told the Idaho Statesman. “And we’ve done that because we’re so serious about our commitment that we can leave this place better.”

“Perpetua has a really glamorous vision for what the site is going to look like afterwards, and I hope that’s successful,” John Robison, public lands and wildlife director with the Idaho Conservation League, told the Statesman. “I don’t see that from the mine plan.”

“This approval elevates the Stibnite Gold Project to an elite class of projects in America that have cleared NEPA,” Jon Cherry, Perpetua’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “The Stibnite Gold Project can deliver decisive wins for our communities, the environment, the economy, and (U.S.) national security.”

Copper’s early-year rally leaves investors unimpressed

The London Metal Exchange three-month price has risen every day in January and is now up 4.0% from the start of the month, making copper the early outperformer of the LME base metals pack.

Dwindling stocks and China’s rising import appetite have rekindled optimism that the country is finally turning an economic corner.

Fund managers are unconvinced, with investors’ long positions only marginally ahead of bearish bets on both the CME and LME copper contracts.

The Yangshan copper premium , a closely-watched gauge of China’s import demand, is currently at a one-year high of $75 per ton, indicating China is still hungry for metal.

‘Pivotal Moment’—Coinbase CEO Predicts When Bitcoin Price Could Flip Gold’s $18 Trillion

“Any country with gold reserves should be holding at least 11% of that amount in bitcoin reserves,” Armstrong posted to X in response to criticism of Trump’s plan for a national bitcoin reserve. “And I believe in the next five to 10 years bitcoin’s market cap will likely surpass gold. So these reserves should grow to exceed gold.”

“We’re gonna do something great with crypto because we don’t want China, or anybody else … but others are embracing it, and we want to be ahead,” Trump told CNBC.
