Mako Mining Corp. Low cost, high margin gold producer

Mako Mining Corp. presents a compelling investment opportunity as a low-cost, high margin gold producer with strong operational momentum, optionality in exploration potential, management excellence and imminent catalysts supported by a clean balance sheet.

With gold price hovering around $2,900/oz as of March 2025—more than double San Albino’s all-in sustaining cost (AISC) of $1,370/oz—Mako Mining is well positioned to generate sustainable cash flow which the management can put into work to grow the company’s production with a high ROIC or credible M&A (the company management showed their capital allocation excellence multiple times).

    Gold is “uniquely positioned”

Spot prices hit another record high of $3,357.40 per troy ounce on Wednesday before falling back after Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell said President Donald Trump’s tariffs were “significantly larger” than expected.

The Goldman analysts said that stresses in bond markets “increase our conviction that gold is uniquely positioned to hedge recession risk.”

The bank’s economists say there’s a 45% chance of a US recession in the next 12 months. If that happens, the analysts said gold could hit $3,880 by the end of the year — or even as much as $4,500 under certain scenarios.

    Gold futures down 1.8%

The dollar fell to a one-week low against a basket of major currencies as oil prices declined and demand for safe havens waned. Investors can “breathe a sigh of relief that chances of a major escalation have been reduced,” Jefferies economist Mohit Kumar said. The DXY dollar index fell 0.4% to a low of 97.969.

Gold futures also fell, last down 1.8% at $3,334.50 a troy ounce, close to levels last seen before Israel launched strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities earlier this month.

    Central Banks keep gold rally

Central banks are expected to help keep gold’s stunning rally going this year with buying aimed at further diversifying reserves away from the dollar due to risks stemming from U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies.

Spot gold hit its latest record at $3,167.57 a troy ounce on Thursday for a gain of 19% since the start of 2025 and a hefty 71% rise since the end of 2022.

“Emerging market central banks currently hold around 10% of their assets in gold. They should really hold 30% of their assets in gold,” said BofA commodity strategist Michael Widmer.

“From the central banking perspective (uncertainty) means less incentive to add Treasuries into portfolios and more incentive to actually de-dollarise it,” he said.
