Anglo American to Retain 20% Stake in Demerged Platinum Business

Anglo American said it does intend to sell the remainder of its retained shares over time, and said that it will not hold any representation on the Anglo American Platinum board after the split.

    Gold and Silver Rs up

    Gold of 99.5 per cent purity increased Rs 50 to reclaim its all-time high level of Rs 96,000 per 10 grams against the previous close of Rs 95,950 per 10 grams.

    Silver prices climbed by Rs 2,500 to Rs 97,500 per kg on the back of fresh industrial demand.

    “Gold prices remain steady near all-time highs, buoyed by a weakening dollar and persistent uncertainty surrounding US trade policy,” Chintan Mehta, Chief Executive Officer at Abans Financial Services, said.

    “Incredible demand for physical gold” in New York Markets

    “There is incredible demand for physical gold in New York markets,” said Peter Spina, president and founder of gold news and information provider GoldSeek.com., referring to it as a “physical gold rush.”

    “Those who are caught short physical metal are looking around and seeing a window closing here,” he said. They’re “desperately seeking physical metal before the price could jump overnight.”

    “Meeting a surge in demand will always stretch capacity, but London vaults have been working overtime to service this London-New York flow,”

    Barrick Gold more than doubles its cash flow

    On Wednesday, ahead of the North American equity market open, Barrick Gold (NYSE: GOLD, TSX: ABX) reported a 69% increase in net earnings to $2.14 billion and a 51% rise in adjusted net earnings to $2.21 billion, significantly beating analyst expectations. The company also noted that its annual operating cash flow in 2024 increased by 20% to $4.49 billion, while free cash flow more than doubled to $1.32 billion.

    iShares silver outperforms gold

    This year’s returns on silver, at 26.8%, have inched slightly above gold, according to the prices of two popular exchange-traded funds, the iShares Silver Trust and SPDR Gold Shares as of Monday’s trading.

    It is the first time the iShares silver ETF has outperformed gold’s year-to-date gains in 48 trading days. As recently as May, the gold fund’s 2025 returns were nearly double that of silver. Much of the catch-up has taken place in June as the silver ETF gained 11% while the gold fund gained 1%.

    Gold futures rising

    Gold price have risen from Wednesday’s record close, propelled by fears that Trump’s tariffs will continue to hammer stocks and expectations that central banks will continue to hoard the precious metal. Gold futures for April delivery settled Wednesday at $3,139.90 a troy ounce, the latest notch in their 19% climb this year.
