New Dehli gold and silver hit record levels

Gold and silver prices hit fresh record levels on Monday, rallying Rs 1,300 each, tracking strong trends in the global markets amid uncertainty over US tariffs, trade tensions and growing expectations of monetary policy easing by the Federal Reserve.

According to the All India Sarafa Association, the precious metal of 99.9 per cent purity, extending gains for the fourth day in a row, rallying Rs 1,300 to hit a fresh peak of Rs 90,750 per 10 grams.

    Gold down, futures ease

    Gold prices were stuck in range-bound trade on Thursday as investors awaited U.S. non-farm payrolls data that could influence the Federal Reserve’s timeline for interest rate cuts.

    Spot gold was down 0.3% at $3,347.44 an ounce by 1128 GMT. U.S. gold futures eased by 0.1% to $3,358.

    The non-farm payrolls report due at 1230 GMT on Thursday is expected to show an addition of 110,000 jobs in June, down from 139,000 in May, according to a Reuters poll.

    Spot silver rose 0.9% to $36.93 an ounce while platinum lost 2.7% to $1,379.95 and palladium retreated by 1.9% to $1,132.76.

    This year has been an up and down ride for silver after 2023 but seems to have taken a turn in the last quarter of the year.

    “Silver fell to a quarterly low of US$30.11 on November 27, but since then the precious metal has regained some ground. As of December 11, it was trading at US$31.88.

    The next Fed meeting is set to run from December 17 to 18. Most analysts expect the central bank to make one last 25 basis point cut before pausing in 2025.”

    Gold prices and gold futures drop

    Spot gold, which dipped 0.5% to $2,904.51 an ounce as of 1211 GMT, has gained over 10% year-to-date. It hit a record high of $2,956.15 on February 24.

    U.S. gold futures also dropped 0.5% to $2,912.10.

    “Gold seems to be experiencing profit-taking as investors closely watch tariff developments with prices trading toward $2,900 ahead of the non-farm payrolls report,” Lukman Otunuga, senior research analyst at FXTM, said.

    Platinum prices were flat at $964.68 per ounce.

    Spot silver dipped 0.7% to $32.39 an ounce and palladium shed 0.5% to $937.74.

    Silver prices rise

    New Delhi, Jan 29 (PTI) Silver prices on Wednesday marginally rose Rs 6 to Rs 91,057 per kilogram as participants increased their bets.

    Globally, silver was trading 0.14 per cent lower at USD 30.37 per ounce in New York.
