Gold lost .2%, Silver up, Platinum fell

Gold eased on Monday due to slightly firmer U.S. Treasury yields and profit-taking following last week’s sharp rally driven by weak U.S. jobs data.

Spot gold lost 0.2% to $3,356.91 per ounce, as of 1051 GMT, after rising more than 2% on Friday.

“The market will remain range bound with today’s pullback being in line with some the reversals seen across markets following Friday’s big moves, especially yields which are a tad firmer and stocks which have seen a rebound,” Saxo Bank’s head of commodity strategy, Ole Hansen, said.

Spot silver rose 0.3% to $37.14 per ounce, platinum fell 0.3% to $1,311.38 and palladium was down 0.8% at $1,199.08.

Everything about buying gold at Costco

Costco offers members an opportunity to purchase one-ounce gold bars in the store, online or via their app. The retailer offers gold bullion bars, 1-ounce bars and coins in different designs. As of February 2025, Costco offers the following gold products:

    • 1 oz. gold bar PAMP Suisse Lady Fortuna Veriscan
    • 1 oz. gold bar Rand Refinery (online only)
    • 2025 1 oz. American Buffalo gold coin
    • 1 oz. gold bar PAMP / Newmont Lady of Liberty (online only)
    • 100-gram gold bar Rand Refinery

Costco’s selection comes from authorized dealers and reputable mints. However, as Costco members are accustomed to, offerings and availability may change.

Costco marks up its cost for gold by roughly 2%. Markup is common practice among gold dealers and retailers, and 2% is on the low end of industry standards.

Copper prices may continue to rise

Copper is generally a good indicator because it’s used all over the economy — in factories, houses, electronics and streetlights, per Chris Berry, founder and president of House Mountain Partners.

“The next time you’re on an airplane at night, and you’re coming in for a landing, and you see any lights or anything like that, every single one of those lights is working because of the electrical conductivity of copper,” he said.

So, if the economy is growing, and we’re building more, we’ll need more copper.

    Copper futures up 5%

U.S. copper futures rallied nearly 5% on Wednesday, rising more than other global benchmarks, after President Trump said imports of the metal would be subject to a 25% tariff; the front-month May Comex contract (HG1:COM) currently +4.6% at $4.76/lb.

Trump’s comments in last night’s speech to Congress sparked a surge in Comex copper prices in Asian hours, as traders reacted to the possibility that copper tariffs could be larger than expected.

“A 25% tariff was clearly not what the market was expecting before those comments, and now traders are scrambling to price in the correct level, whatever that might end up being,” Saxo Bank’s Ole Hansen said. “Whatever the final tariff is, the disruption to global trade flows is very real.”
