Silver holding at $30ish, Can it keep up with Gold?

At 13:19 GMT, XAG/USD is trading $30.84, Unchanged.

Prices have also remained above the pivot at $30.53, which keeps the short-, medium-, and long-term trends firmly upward.

Daily Gold (XAU/USD)Gold, often viewed as silver’s counterpart, has outperformed with a breakout above $2,726.30, pushing prices closer to record highs at $2,790.17.

A sustained rally above $30.53 and a breakout over $30.98 may open the door for further gains, but for now, silver remains in gold’s shadow.

    Central Banks keep gold rally

Central banks are expected to help keep gold’s stunning rally going this year with buying aimed at further diversifying reserves away from the dollar due to risks stemming from U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies.

Spot gold hit its latest record at $3,167.57 a troy ounce on Thursday for a gain of 19% since the start of 2025 and a hefty 71% rise since the end of 2022.

“Emerging market central banks currently hold around 10% of their assets in gold. They should really hold 30% of their assets in gold,” said BofA commodity strategist Michael Widmer.

“From the central banking perspective (uncertainty) means less incentive to add Treasuries into portfolios and more incentive to actually de-dollarise it,” he said.

    Gold steady, tariff announcement

Spot gold was at $3,026.85 an ounce at 1131 GMT. U.S. gold futures edged 0.4% higher to $3,032.40.

“A modestly weaker dollar is probably giving gold a little bit of a tailwind at present,” said Ross Norman, an independent analyst.

“A worse-than-feared tariff announcement on April 2 could give bullion bulls a shot in the arm towards striving for the $3,100 mark,” said Han Tan, Exinity Group’s chief market analyst.

“Should risk-on sentiment make a comeback, assuming the U.S. tariff threats prove to be more bark than bite, that could see fleeting forays below $3,000,”

Spot silver firmed 0.4% to $33.16 an ounce, platinum steadied at $975.55, and palladium was flat at $957.95
